What fits in a 10-yard dumpster?
A 10-yard dumpster holds about 3–5 pickup-truck loads. We recommend this size for concrete, dirt, or a small bathroom remodel. Typical 10-yard jobs include one bathroom gutted to the studs: tile, tub, vanity and drywall or a 1-car garage or a 1–2 room cleanout. These are typical fits, not guarantees.

- One bathroom gutted to the studs: tile, tub, vanity and drywall
- A 1-car garage or a 1–2 room cleanout
- Up to about 80 sq ft of 4-inch concrete slab (filled no more than halfway)
- Dirt from a small grading or landscaping job

How much concrete fits in a 10-yard dumpster?
A 10-yard dumpster includes 2 tons, which equals about 80 square feet of 4-inch concrete slab. Concrete weighs roughly 50 pounds per square foot at 4 inches thick, so 80 sq ft × 50 lb = 4,000 lb, or 2 tons. Heavy loads also stop at the halfway line.
Bigger slab? Plan more than one haul, or ask about clean-load pricing. A load that is only concrete, or only dirt, with no trash or wood mixed in, qualifies for special clean-fill pricing.
Light debris works the other way. A 10-yard full of household junk weighs about 1.25–1.5 tons (EPA averages), so it fills up by volume long before it hits 2 tons.
Estimate from EPA average material weights. Your scale ticket sets the real number.
Is a 10-yard too small or too big for my job?
If you are clearing more than two rooms, the 15-yard costs less than a second 10-yard haul. If the job is concrete or dirt, stay with the 10-yard: the weight limit, not the space, is what you are paying for. Too small means a swap, billed as a second rental.
What does a 10 yard dumpster rental cost in total?
A 10-yard dumpster costs one flat base price that covers delivery, pickup, 7 days and 2 tons. Your total changes only if you go over 2 tons ($75 per ton, by the pound), keep it past 7 days ($25 per day), or add a mattress, tire or Freon appliance ($50 each).
Here is how the example works. The ticket shows 2.30 tons net. That is 0.30 tons over the 2 included tons. 0.30 × $75 = $22.50.

10-yard dumpster questions
Is a 10-yard dumpster big enough for a bathroom remodel?
One full bathroom gut usually fits in a 10-yard dumpster: the tub, toilet, vanity, tile and drywall. Two bathrooms or a bathroom plus a bedroom is the point to move up to a 15-yard.
Can I fill a 10-yard dumpster to the top with dirt?
Dirt, concrete, brick and sand can only fill the dumpster halfway up the walls. Highway weight limits set that line, and a load above it cannot leave your property.
How many pickup loads is a 10-yard dumpster?
About 3 to 5 pickup-truck loads, assuming an 8-ft bed loaded level holds 2 to 3 cubic yards. That is a typical figure; how you pack changes it.
Will a 10-yard dumpster fit in a short driveway?
The 10-yard is 12 ft long and 8 ft wide, so it fits most single-car driveways. The truck still needs about 60 ft of straight approach to set it down.
