What can you put in a dumpster, item by item?

Find your item below. "Allowed" means no extra charge beyond weight. Items marked with a fee go in for $50 each because the landfill processes them separately. Items marked "not allowed" must go to a household hazardous waste collection or a take-back program instead.

Why are mattresses, tires and fridges extra?

Mattresses, tires and Freon appliances cost $50 each because the landfill handles each one separately. Mattresses tangle equipment, tires can't be buried whole, and appliances with refrigerant must have it recovered before disposal under EPA 40 CFR 82.155. Tell us how many when you book.

Where do banned items go instead?

Banned items go to household hazardous waste (HHW) collections, retailer take-back programs or scrap recyclers. Car batteries are taken back where you buy new ones. Leftover paint, pesticides and pool chemicals go to an HHW collection day. Your county page lists the local options we have confirmed.

Paint, chemicals and tires: SETRPC collection day

The South East Texas Regional Planning Commission runs a household hazardous waste and scrap tire day for Southeast Texas households. The 2026 event was Saturday, May 30, 8 AM–1 PM, at Buna High School: paint (up to 10 one-gallon and 2 five-gallon cans), chemicals, and tires (first 8 free, then $1 each, no rims). Call 409-899-8444 ext. 7520 for the next date.

Mattresses, appliances and tires in Beaumont: heavy trash

Beaumont's weekly heavy-trash pickup takes furniture, mattresses, appliances and up to 4 tires a year from single-family homes. It does not take building debris, shingles, brick, dirt or plaster, which is what a dumpster is for.

Batteries, oil and tires in Nederland: retailer take-back

Nederland directs residents to take tires to participating tire stores, used oil and filters to participating auto repair shops, and car batteries to battery retailers.

Refrigerators, freezers and AC units: refrigerant recovery

Federal rules require refrigerant to be recovered from appliances like fridges, freezers and window AC units before final disposal. That is why these go in our dumpsters for $50 each.

What happens if a banned item is found in my dumpster?

If a banned item is found, it has to come out before the load can be dumped. Landfills inspect loads and reject hazardous materials. Keep liquids, batteries and chemicals out, and set aside fee items so they can be counted. When unsure about an item, call before you load it.

Item questions

Can I put paint in a dumpster?

Dried-out latex paint cans with no liquid left can go in. Wet or liquid paint can't. Leave lids off to let latex dry, or take it to an HHW collection.

Can I put a mattress in a dumpster?

A mattress or box spring can go in for $50 each. Count them when you book so the quote is complete.

Can tires go in a dumpster?

Automotive tires can go in for $50 each. Many tire shops also take old tires for a small fee when you buy new ones.

Can I throw away a TV or computer in a dumpster?

Call us before loading electronics. Texas runs manufacturer take-back programs for TVs and computers, which are the better route.

Can concrete go in any dumpster?

Concrete, dirt, brick and sand go only in a 10 or 15-yard, filled no more than halfway. See heavy-debris rules.
