What size dumpster do I need for concrete?

Concrete goes in a 10-yard or 15-yard dumpster only. A 10-yard includes 2 tons, about 80 square feet of 4-inch slab. A 15-yard includes 2.5 tons, about 100 square feet. Both are loaded no more than halfway up the walls because of highway weight limits.

Slab area (4 in thick)WeightSize within included tons
40 sq ft2,000 lb (1.0 t)10-yard
60 sq ft3,000 lb (1.5 t)10-yard
80 sq ft4,000 lb (2.0 t)10-yard
100 sq ft5,000 lb (2.5 t)15-yard
150 sq ft7,500 lb (3.8 t)15-yard + more hauls
Normal concrete weighs about 145–150 lb per cubic foot, so a 4-inch slab is about 50 lb per square foot. Typical figure; reinforced or thicker slabs weigh more.

How much dirt fits in a dumpster?

A 10-yard dumpster holds about 4.3 cubic yards of dirt within its 2 included tons, using the EPA average of 929 pounds per cubic yard for dirt and sand. That is just under the halfway fill line of 5 cubic yards. Wet clay from a Southeast Texas yard weighs more than dry sand.

Use the estimator to check a dirt or concrete load. It caps heavy debris at half full, the same as the rule on the truck.

About 3.1 tons in a 20-yard (3 tons included). That is about 0.1 tons over, roughly $10 at $75 per ton, billed by the exact pound. This is an estimate from EPA average weights; your scale ticket sets the real number.

What is clean-load pricing?

Clean-load pricing is a special rate for heavy debris that is one material only. A load of only concrete, or only dirt, with no trash, wood or roots mixed in, qualifies. Mixed loads are billed at the standard rate with $75 per ton over the included weight. Call for the current clean-fill price.

  • Rebar and wire mesh in concrete: ask when you book.
  • Brick, block and stone: heavy debris rules apply.
  • Sod and roots mixed with dirt make it a mixed load.

Can a heavy dumpster go on my driveway?

A heavy-debris dumpster can go on a driveway. Our drivers set wooden boards under the rails to spread the weight and protect the surface. Keep it off lawns, septic lids and soft ground, where a 10-yard holding 2 tons of concrete can sink. Newly poured concrete needs to cure first.

What does a concrete dumpster rental cost?

Your 10-yard dumpster price includes delivery, pickup, 7 days and 2 tons. Weight over 2 tons costs $75 per ton, charged by the exact pound, not rounded up. A copy of the certified landfill scale ticket comes with your final invoice, emailed 3 to 5 business days after pickup.

Here is how the example works. The ticket shows 2.30 tons net. That is 0.30 tons over the 2 included tons. 0.30 × $75 = $22.50.

Other charges happen only if they apply: $25 for each day past 7, $50 per mattress, tire or Freon appliance, and a $125 trip fee if the driver cannot reach the dumpster.

Concrete & dirt dumpster questions

Can I fill a dumpster to the top with concrete?

Concrete, dirt, brick and sand can only go halfway up the walls. Highway weight limits set the line, and a load above it can't be hauled.

Why can't I put concrete in a 20-yard dumpster?

Even half full, a 20-yard of concrete would weigh far more than the truck can legally carry. Our 10 and 15-yard sizes are the only ones for heavy debris.

Can I mix concrete and household junk?

You can, but the load loses clean-load pricing and every ton over the limit is $75. Separating materials usually costs less.

How much does a yard of concrete weigh?

Solid concrete weighs about 4,000 lb per cubic yard. Broken concrete takes up more space because of the gaps; the EPA average for loose concrete debris is 860 lb per cubic yard.

Can bricks go in a dumpster?

Brick, block and pavers are allowed as heavy debris, in a 10 or 15-yard only, loaded halfway.
