A national price survey of 3,060 published dumpster prices, collected August 15 to September 27, 2026, found these medians. They are national medians, not our prices. Local landfill fees, distance and debris type move any company's price up or down.
| Size | National median price | Our included weight |
|---|---|---|
| 10-yard | $350 | 2 tons |
| 15-yard | $380 | 2.5 tons |
| 20-yard | $449 | 3 tons |
| 30-yard | $555 | 4 tons |

What extra fees can a dumpster rental have?
A dumpster rental can have eight possible extra charges, and each one applies only when something specific happens. The most common is weight over the included tons, at $75 per ton billed by the exact pound. The rest are extra days, swaps, trip fees, overfilling, special items, rush delivery and permits.
| Charge | Amount | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Weight over the included tons | $75 per ton, by the exact pound | Only if the scale ticket is over |
| Extra rental day | $25 per day | After the included 7 days |
| Swap (full out, empty in) | Billed as a new flat-rate rental | When you ask for a swap |
| Trip fee (dry run) | $125 | Driver can't drop or pick up: blocked spot, low wires, locked gate |
| Overfilled load | $125 trip fee, then excess must come out | Debris above the top rim |
| Mattress, tire or Freon appliance | $50 per item | Special handling at the landfill |
| Same-day rush | $50 | Only when a truck is open that day |
| Street permit | Set by your city | Only if the dumpster goes in the street |
Why do dumpster prices vary so much?
Dumpster prices vary because three costs change by area: the landfill's per-ton disposal fee, the distance the truck drives, and the type of debris. Heavy debris costs more to dispose of. A rural address 60 miles out costs more fuel and drive time than one across town. Seasons change demand too.
That is why we quote by phone: a 2-minute call with your ZIP and project gets you the real number instead of a range. Ask the same three questions of any company you compare: how many tons are included, what the overage rate is, and whether you get the scale ticket.

What does a real final bill look like?
Your 15-yard dumpster price includes delivery, pickup, 7 days and 2.5 tons. Weight over 2.5 tons costs $75 per ton, charged by the exact pound, not rounded up. A copy of the certified landfill scale ticket comes with your final invoice, emailed 3 to 5 business days after pickup.
Here is how the example works. The ticket shows 2.90 tons net. That is 0.40 tons over the 2.5 included tons. 0.40 × $75 = $30.00.
Other charges happen only if they apply: $25 for each day past 7, $50 per mattress, tire or Freon appliance, and a $125 trip fee if the driver cannot reach the dumpster.

Is a cheaper dumpster quote always cheaper?
Not always. A lower base price with 1 ton included can cost more than a higher one with 3 tons. Compare included tons and the per-ton rate, not just the base price.

Our fee list is the table above. Ask us to confirm the full total for your address when you book.
